Welcome to Storm Water Training
page 1
In 1972, the Federal Water Pollution Control Act was enacted to appease the growing public awareness and concern for controlling water pollution. This law became commonly known as the Clean Water Act and authorized the EPA to regulate discharges to surface waters in the United States. The most recent version of the Clean Water Act depicts the law as of November 27, 2002.
UNLV is committed to the protection of the environment and has prepared the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPP). This plan was designed to provide guidance to (1) assure appropriate actions are taken during an emergency release, (2) aim to minimize harm to human health and the environment, and (3) provide prevention measures.
This plan is applicable for all sites to which UNLV provides environmental and safety support including, but not limited to, UNLV main (Maryland) campus, UNLV Shadow Lane Campus (SLC), and Nevada State College (NSC).
The remainder of this training will further discuss the SWPP and introduce the concept known as Best Management Practices (BMP). At the conclusion of this training, you will be asked to complete a form to receive proper credit for completing this course.
