![]() Welcome to Hazard Communication Review page 1 This course is designed to be a review of information received in the classroom and discusses basic information regarding the safe use of hazardous materials at UNLV. If you work with hazardous materials, this course is required. However, if you have yet to complete the course in the classroom, please contact Risk Management and Safety for further instructions. The general principle behind Hazard Communication is that each employee has the "Right-to-Know" about the chemicals to they may be exposed while at work. OSHA has developed the Hazard Communication Standard, found in 29 CFR 1910.1200, to ensure chemical safety in the workplace. Although the details of the Hazard Communication (HazCom) Standard are complicated, the basic idea simply requires employers to communicate information to employees about the hazards of chemicals or products in the workplace. UNLV has developed a Hazard Communication Program Policy and Procedure that defines our responsibility of HazCom on campus. The document specifies who is responsible for various aspects of the program, the hazardous materials present on campus, and where written materials may be obtained.
